GNB (Gruppo Nazionale di Bioingegneria) is a non-profit association with scientific, cultural, informative, and social goals, such as promoting, sponsoring and coordinating studies, research and debates on Biomedical engineering. GNB organizes scientific events and summer schools for PhD students since 1981. Natural interlocutors of GNB include stakeholders such as ministries, universities and research institutes, the national health system, the industrial and entrepreneurial partners and the international scientific community. Today, GNB has about 500 members.
The GNB Congress, held on biannual base since 2008, is the melting pot of biomedical research and clinical end-users fully inserted in the framework of the most advanced international research in Biomedical engineering, which combines the engineering background with the clinical one. The GNB Congress provides an overview of recent activities and breakthrough research in the field and aims at involving all members of the scientific and industrial communities. The GNB Congress will be held alongside the XIV Annual Meeting of ESB-ITA (ESB-ITA 2025), creating a unique four-day event on biomedical engineering in Palermo! The GNB meeting will run from Monday, June 16, to Wednesday, June 18, followed by the ESB-ITA Thematic Session on Wednesday afternoon and General Session the day after (Thursday 19). To encourage interactions between the two societies, discounts will be offered to GNB participants for attending both meetings.
The 9th GNB Congress will take place from 16 to 18 June 2025, in Palermo. The University of Palermo (UniPa), founded in 1806, is one of Italy’s major public universities, known for its rich history of academic excellence and research, offering a wide range of programs across multiple disciplines, with a strong emphasis on innovation and regional development in Sicily. Nowadays, formal Bioengineering research (Information and Industrial) groups are present in the Department of Engineering (DI). he research group is currently involved in significant projects such as SAMOTHRACE - Sicilian MicronanoTech Research And Innovation Center, part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), DARE - Digital Life-Long Prevention, part of the National Plan for Complementary Investments to the PNRR, HONEST - High-Order Dynamical Networks in Computational Neuroscience and Physiology: an Information-Theoretic Approach, and PRIN 2022 Green Microfluidic Platform for Advanced Tissue on a Chip Cultures (Green MID-PLACE).
